Katie James is an associate lawyer with Purser Dooley Cockburn Smith LLP whose practice
focuses in the area of commercial litigation, with an emphasis on creditors’
rights and remedies, employment and construction law. Katie also conducts
legal research for the firm’s litigation lawyers and solicitors. In addition
Katie works with the solicitors in the firm on commercial, real estate
and estate matters.
Prior to Law school Katie attended York University and received a Bachelor of Arts
degree, double majoring in History and Anthropology. Katie graduated from the University
of Windsor, Faculty of Law in 2000 and received an award for criminal advocacy.
She was called to the Bar in February 2002. She articled with the Crown's office
in Barrie and after her call she continued to work as an Assistant Crown Attorney.
Prior to joining Purser Dooley Cockburn Smith LLP, Katie practiced primarily criminal
law.
Katie has strong family roots in Barrie. She is excited to live and practice here
and takes an active role on various committees and boards within the Barrie community.
Katie is a Board Member of Downtown Barrie and an Appointed Director for the Chamber
of Commerce. She also volunteers as a member of the Simcoe Law Association Library
Committee. Katie also is a Member at Large for the Ontario Bar Association Insolvency
Section. Katie enjoys reading, outdoor sports and skating.
